AWP Gives “In Joyce’s Name”
Our gifting program is called “IN JOYCE’S NAME” & for very good reasons! Joyce Boughner Plummer was my dearest woman friend over twenty years. Our paths parted briefly while I moved from our home area and she weathered a painful divorce and recurring battles with cancer. In 2002, we literally bumped into each other at our local Wal-Mart and picked up our friendship as if no time or space had parted us. Initially we came together through out mutual growing faith commitment in the Lord Jesus Christ. We could level with one another, weep and mourn with each other and experience the joys of life together. She was one of the most courageous women I’ve known. She survived breast cancer only to have it return in the lungs – she survived that only to have it return in the other breast and bone. Joyce had two growing children – miracle kids since she’d been told she might never conceive – a daughter who graduated just months after her Mother’s death, and a junior high age son. She was determined to survive! On March 29, 2003, in the early morning hours, Joyce gave up the fight and went on to a joyous new life with no more struggles or pain! In life, she nurtured women-less-fortunate & encouraged them to move beyond self-pity and a sense of entitlement and achieve their God-given destiny. In her short 52 years of earthly life – she left a legacy that won’t be forgotten. I miss her! Joyce exemplifies the spirit, passion, vision and mission of A Women’s Place.org. Although she resides in a vastly different space now – her presence is felt! We are proud to honor her spirit & memory in this way!
